A Hanover Park man is on the run after he was caught on camera viciously stabbing a dog to death.
The case was reported by the Animal Welfare Society of SA (AWS) which saw officers carry out a search in Hanover Park because they believed the suspect had fled Mitchell’s Plain at the weekend.
AWS SA spokesperson, Allan Perrins, said the dog’s owner has been left traumatised following the senseless, fatal stabbing of their dog by a ruthless gangster.
“To say that the perpetrator’s actions were inhumane is an understatement. Our inspectors have secured bone-chilling CCTV footage of the unprovoked attack and worked around the clock to trace the identity and whereabouts of the suspect and are working closely with SAPS and the owner to gain justice for the dog.’
Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi, said the incident was recorded last Tuesday.
“Reports suggested that the complainant, a 32-year-old man alleges he was at his premises in Surdown Walk in Hanover Park. When the complainant went outside, he saw a man stabbing his dog and left it behind.
The man fled and is yet to be arrested. Philippi police registered a case of cruelty to animals.”
Inspector Sivuyile Kilwa visited the crime scene to collect the dog’s body and accompanied the terrified owner to the police station to open a case.
“We have provided the police with everything they need to arrest and charge the suspect and will be disappointed if they fail to act. I risked my own life going to the scene and begged the owner not to be intimidated. I found myself surrounded by a large group of gangsters brandishing weapons in a threatening manner”, said Kilwa.
Perrins said they remained hopeful that the suspect will hand himself over to police.
