Shake out your best Princess frock, polish your tiara and brush up on your favourite Disney songs, because Disney on Ice – 100 Years of Magic has arrived at GrandWest’s Grand Arena. There’s a whole host of familiar characters lacing up their skates to keep you thrilled and entertained until Sunday.
Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Goofy are delighted to whisk their friends off on an adventure that dives deep beneath the sea, rummages through a toy box, ventures across the African grasslands, and visits castles across the world.
The show is a delight for little ones who excitedly shout the names of their favourite characters as they glide, jiggle and hop across the ice. Look out for most of the Disney Princesses and their Princes, dancing to songs from their own movies. Pocahontas and John Smith share the ice with Ariel and Eric, Aladdin and Jasmine, and of course Snow White and Cinderella and their charming Princes.
While kids squeal with delight at Nemo, Woody, Buzz and Timon and Pumbaa, grown-ups will be whisked back in time by the likes of Pinocchio and Jiminy Cricket. There really is something for everyone, although it’s a pity this show doesn’t include Frozen’s Elsa and Anna – a missed opportunity considering the icy setting.
Children (of all ages) are invited to sing along with their favourite songs as the cast whips through abridged versions of the iconic stories. There’s snow, bubbles, fireworks and lots of friendly smiles. Grown-ups will be dragged to the concession stalls for bright (and not cheap) Disney-themed goodies, and there’ll no doubt be a rush on the nearby ice-rink as older children may fancy themselves one-day ice stars.
There’s no better way to take the edge off the back-to-school week.
