Durban — KwaZulu-Natal police have confirmed the discovery of a body wrapped in a blanket under a bed in the uMhlanga area.

Marshall Security managing director Tyron Powell said that at 8.40am on Friday, the company was contacted by the Umhlanga Urban Improvement Precinct (UIP). A resident on Ridge Road, uMhlanga, reported to the UIP that there was a foul smell emanating from his tenant’s room.

Powell said that officers were immediately dispatched to the scene and arrived to find a UIP inspector and other security companies already present.

“During the inspection, a grim discovery was made: the tenant’s body was found wrapped in blankets under the bed,” Powell said.

He said the deceased, reportedly missing since Saturday, had been a concern for family members.

“Adding to the alarm, the tenant’s vehicle – a Mercedes-Benz – is also missing,” Powell said.

KZN police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said police in Durban North are investigating a case of murder after the body of a 53-year-old man who was reported missing on November 17, was found at a residence on Ridge Road on Friday.

“Police responded to reports of a stench coming from inside the house and upon arrival, a decomposing body was found under the bed wrapped with a blanket. The deceased's vehicle was not found,” Netshiunda said.

He said investigations continue.

Powell added: “This case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and immediate reporting when something seems amiss in the community.”

Meanwhile, earlier this week, Reaction Unit SA (Rusa) reported that Rakesh Ganesh, 53, also known as Shane was reported missing from his home in uMhlanga Rocks.

Rusa said Ganesh was last seen on Sunday, November 17, around 12:00. He left his residence on Ridge Road in a bronze Mercedes-Benz E-Class. His cellphone has been switched off since.

Ganesh, who has two daughters, had not contacted his children since his disappearance.
