Nigerian superstar Burna Boy has found himself at the centre of a social media storm after he mocked Mzansi for crowning a white woman, Mia le Roux, as Miss South Africa 2024.

Burna Boy, known for his chart-topping hits and outspoken personality, took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his thoughts on the pageant’s outcome.

“So after ALL that …” accompanied by a series of laughing emojis, and a picture of Le Roux as she smiled broadly wearing the Miss SA crown.

Burna Boy was responding after Chidimma Vanessa Onwe Adetshina, who was one of the leading contestants to become the next Miss SA, was forced to withdraw from the competition after it was revealed last week that her mother allegedly committed identity fraud to secure her South African citizenship.

Adetshina is the product of a Nigerian father and a Mozambican mother. A fierce public storm over her citizenship lasted for weeks.

Critics questioned whether Chidimma, despite being born in the country, could truly represent South Africa on an international stage.

Burna Boy’s tweet, which appeared to mock the situation, sparked outrage, particularly among South African users.

One user, @B__master, tweeted: “Burna Boy hasn't forgiven South Africa for not buying his tickets for his last show that was canceled. This tweet of his has bitterness all over it.”

Another user, @vindollar016, added: “It is clear you are still hurt from getting blue-ticked when you were supposed to perform in SA…”

The most cutting response came from @Simphiweyinkocy, who tweeted: “As South Africans, we live in harmony with white South Africans. The only people causing headaches are your fellow brothers. Your sisters aren’t too much of a problem because they just plait our hair. Which thus said, your opinions as Nigerians don’t matter to us.”
