IT WAS all-girl semi-final at the 2017 GrandWest Open Mic Jazz competition at the Market Hall, GrandWest.
The ninth annual edition of the popular competition is now almost at a close, with the top six announced at the semi-final event yesterday.
They are Ruby Truter, Caitlin Farmer, Lauren Hendricks, Naledi Masilo, Sisanda Myataza and Gugu Duma. These performers will have their last chance to shine on stage. They will vye for top positions, with prizes worth more than R100 000 to be awarded to the top three.
The final event promises to be a night of energetic entertainment.
Over the years, the singing competition has grown to become an anticipated and respected platform for showcasing emerging talent.
The competition is open to jazz vocalists over the age of 18. During the course of the competition, the judges have focused on vocal technique, song interpretation, stage presence and audience response.
For the first time, the competition will produce a show featuring top past and current GrandWest Open Mic Jazz singing competition contestants.
