Durban - ActionSA announced the immediate dissolution of the party’s Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) in KwaZulu-Natal following a senate meeting on Tuesday night.
A statement issued by national ActionSA chair Michael Beaumont after the meeting said over the past few weeks, it had become clear to the party that a group of individuals have been allowed to infiltrate the PEC in KZN.
He said the intentions of these individuals was to create instability within ActionSA.
“It is apparent that the actions of these individuals are motivated by political forces outside of ActionSA and would manifest in a series of public resignations citing false pretences for the purpose of damaging the image of the party,” he said.
The Mercury’s sister publication, the Daily News, reported yesterday that eThekwini regional chairperson of ActionSA, Busisiwe Ntshingila, and uThukela regional chairperson Mdumiseni Mlangeni have resigned with immediate effect from ActionSA.
In their letters of resignation, both leaders said that in the past six months, they had questioned themselves about whether they still wanted to be in the political party.
Mlangeni said that after much reflection, he realised that ActionSA is not what it presents itself to be. He claimed that he had faced racism, classism and elitism within the organisation.
Ntshingila said she no longer believes that ActionSA was the alternative for the people and that the party cannot fix the country.
In the statement, Beaumont said the senate acknowledged that there are many members of ActionSA within the PEC who are committed to the project to fix South Africa.
He said the party is confident these members will continue to build the structures across the province.
“This evenings (Tuesday’s) Senate resolved that the party’s National Director of Operations, John Moodey, will oversee all political activities in KZN pending the arrival of a new provincial chairperson in October 2022,” said Beaumont.
