Pretoria - Forget the Foo Fighters, the X-Fighters are coming to town.

In less than a month the Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour finals will be taking place at the Union Buildings in Pretoria, with the world’s best freestyle motocross athletes jetting in to show us just how it’s done.

Fans can expect a titanic display of freestyle motocross, featuring the best riders on the planet throwing down their craziest antics.

Come August 23 those in the know will recognise bike-flipping heroes like Tom Pagès (France), Levi Sherwood (New Zealand) and king of the double backflip Josh Sheehan (Australia). Defending South Africa’s honour will be Nick de Wit, who competes as a wildcard in the event and is the only local entry.

Head judge at the world finals is Jason Moriarty, another proudly South African citizen.

“It’s been a long time coming, and I’m so glad we finally get to bring Red Bull X-Fighters to my home country,” said Moriarty. “It’s also the first world tour final on African soil.”

“Hosting this world tour final in front of the 9m-tall statue of Madiba is a huge moment for the capital city,” said Tshwane’s acting city manager Lindiwe Kwele. “We look forward to seeing the breathtaking tricks and awe-inspiring bike flips that the Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour is known for.”

Created back in 2001, the Red Bull X-Fighters concept has become the biggest and most respected freestyle motocross tour worldwide, featuring the globe’s best riders and greatest tricks in various locations across the map. Ticket prices start from R295, and according to organisers, sales are moving fast. Visit www.redbullxfighters.com for more details or to make a booking.
