Pretoria - On Saturday 23 August the Union Buildings will play backdrop to a whole different kind of action.
The Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour finals are headed to SA’s capital city, with the world’s best freestyle motocross athletes flying in to show us just how it’s done. Fans can expect a titanic display of freestyle motocross, featuring the best riders on the planet throwing down their craziest antics.
Those in the know will recognise bike-flipping heroes such as Tom Pagès of France, New Zealander Levi Sherwood and Australia’s king of the double backflip Josh Sheehan.
Defending South Africa’s honour will be Nick de Wit.
The only local entry, he’ll compete as a wildcard, while the senior judge at the world finals is Jason Moriarty, another South African.
Visitors can also look forward to trying out Toyota’s Yaris Extreme Thrill Ride, which is an extreme obstacle course including areas dubbed the Up and Over, the Strobe Tunnel and Jump, and the Slide Slope sling shot.
Tickets to this activity will be handed out randomly.
Passengers’ heart rates monitored and entered onto a leader board. The highest heart rate (per hour session) wins a special Yaris Extreme jacket (all passengers leave with a goodie bag too).
Created back in 2001, the Red Bull X-Fighters concept has become the biggest and most respected freestyle motocross tour worldwide, featuring the globe’s best riders and greatest tricks in various locations across the map.
Ticket prices start from R295; visit the X-Fighters website for more details or to make a booking. - Star Motoring
