The African National Congress (ANC) is dancing to the Democratic Alliance’s (DA) tune, said SACP general secretary Solly Mapaila, who slammed the ANC for constantly failing to put a stop to Helen Zille’s verbal diarrhoea in the inner workings of the GNU.

Shortly after the Government of National Unity (GNU) was formed, Zille affirmed that it was in fact a grand coalition between the ANC and DA.

In a recent video clip that went viral on social media, Zille said: "President Cyril Ramaphosa came up with this notion of a GNU, which he thought would be a better way of selling the concept of a coalition to his own party."

The ANC's response to this was that it lead the GNU and no one can say otherwise.

Mapaila said the ANC’s silence on Zille’s revelations is telling that GNU was indeed a grand coalition.

“She said so herself, in her own words, the ANC has not disputed that. She said a thing of GNU was a side-step,” he said.

Mapaila was addressing the ordinary Central Executive Committee session in Boksburg, Ekurhuleni on Monday.

Because many ANC members felt that the move was a sellout move and wanted to oppose it, President Cyril Ramaphosa then announced it as GNU to invite everyone and not only the ANC.

Mapaila said the primary thing was that this was indeed a grand coalition. “This perception that we share, we have said it ourselves,” be added.

He mentioned that the GNU was essentially a labelled legitimate project to provide cover for the political and ideological decisions and choices of the ANC leaders.

He insisted that the ANC did not consult them in the GNU agreement.

Mapaila maintained that the DA did not represent the black community.

“The DA comrades represent the very essence of apartheid beneficiaries, the very essence of the continuation of colonialism. The DA represents the continuation of a counter-revolutionary agenda,” he said.

“We have said openly, that the ANC must never want to recolonise our country through the backdoor, we will never accept any recolonisation in whatever form it takes.”

Meanwhile, Zille recently revealed that her party prioritised business interests.

She said the DA was instructed by business to protect President Cyril Ramaphosa from the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).
