A Yellow Level 4 warning for severe thunderstorms and heavy downpours has been predicted for parts of the country on Tuesday.

The South African Weather Service (Saws) said Gauteng, the eastern parts of the North West, north-eastern areas of the Free State and the extreme south-western parts of Limpopo will experience torrential rains, leading to localised damage to infrastructure.

"A Yellow Level 2 Warning for Wind and Waves leading to difficulty in navigation at sea as well as small vessels and personal watercrafts at risk of taking on water and capsizing in locality is expected between Hout Bay and Plettenberg Bay," the forecaster said.

Meanwhile, an extremely high fire danger warning has been issued for areas around the central part of the Northern Cape and extreme northern parts of Limpopo.

The rest of the country can expect cloudy to warm weather.

In KwaZulu-Natal, it will be cloudy and cool with isolated showers and rain and cold in the western parts of the province.

Saws said the heatwave for the central and north-eastern parts of the country finally ends, but temperatures are remaining warm to hot in the west of the country.
