A Santam Home and Content Cover product introduced recently enables you to pay for a combined homeowner's and household contents policy on behalf of someone you employ in your home, such as your domestic worker or gardener.

Premiums range from R15 to R240 a month, depending on the value of the homeowner's property and possessions.

For R15 a month, you can get R5 000 building cover and R5 000 household contents cover. The maximum premium of R240 a month will buy R200 000 building cover and R100 000 household contents cover. The broker commission is 15 percent. Personal liability cover of up to R100 000 is included. This covers the policyholder against liability for events that occur in his or her home.

If you an existing Santam policyholder paying for a policy on behalf of your employee will not affect your policy's risk status or no-claims bonus.

To qualify for the policy, your employee has to be the legal owner of the house to be insured, and the house must have brick walls and either a tiled, asbestos or a corrugated iron roof.
