Pretoria - DJ Skhu is back with a new single titled “It’s Cold”, his third release of 2022.

In less than a week since it was released, the song was ranked 16th on Beatport Afro House Chart Top 100. Since the start of the year, DJ Skhu – real name Mduduzi Ntuli – has released “Obaye Obayo” and “Something to Me”, in which he featured Miah on the vocals.

“The new song is doing well and I’m happy with the number of streams and purchases; it shows that South African music is growing day by day,” said the DJ, producer and recording artist.

Asked what motivated him to create the song, DJ Skhu said: “Think of it this way: sometimes it doesn’t matter how cold it gets outside as long as you have someone to keep you warm. That’s probably the only consolation you get when winter finally comes.

“However, most songs about winter are sombre, so with this one I wanted to create something that feels like a breath of fresh air. Essentially, even if you don’t have a partner, you can find other things like a lovely book, a warm pot of soup or booze to keep you warm.”

On the song, DJ Skhu introduces Ojay, who he featured. Ojay is also a producer from Thembalethu specialising in Afrotech and Afrohouse.

“I have been listening to his work, and guess what, I managed to get him and gave him a platform, and then the rest is history,” said DJ Skhu.

He said the wish for all his releases was to reach gold status and the aim is to donate the royalties earned through “It’s Cold” to charity.

“This will be a way to say thank you to the people for believing in me and supporting me.”

Of the other two releases of the year, DJ Skhu said both were doing well. “It feels great to see how people love my work and how they support my work.”

He said music legends such as DJ Fresh, Oskido, Bobsta, Zakes Bantwini, Black Coffee and others have play-listed his music.

The music has also been on high rotation at radio stations. “I really appreciate receiving such beautiful love. I am really grateful.”

He said “It’s Cold” was his last release for the year, after a great experience working with different producers and being be featured by the likes of DJ Edit SA, Comado SA, K Sugar and Patrick J.

For next year, he said his followers should expect an EP or an album. “I will be featuring some of South Africa’s best vocalists. I am already preparing the projects for next year. It is going to be a great year filled with great music.”
