The Blitzboks produced a clinical performance in a flawless outing against Scotland on Sunday to secure their first Rugby World Cup Sevens semi-final in 21 years.
The South Africans controlled the game throughout the match in San Francisco’s AT&T Park.
They struck first when Werner Kok put his massive work-rate to use and powered through defenders to score.
Kok dotted down again after the Blitzboks turned possession over, and Selvyn Davids did his fair share in the build-up with some fine stepping.
Just before halftime, Justin Geduld ran in another to take the score to 17-0.
The Blitzboks were clinical again from the restart in the second half after Siviwe Soyizwapi did well to gather the ball, before Geduld picked it up from the base of the ruck and turned on the pace down the blindside to score.
The Springbok Sevens side did more damage when they went wide, and put Soyizwapi into space to score their fifth try.
Neil Powell’s team continued their efficiency when their bench slotted right in and took care of business as Ruhan Nel effortlessly ran in a try.
Scotland managed to get some points on the scoreboard and secure a late consolation try when Alec Coombes scored an unconverted try after a top spell of play.
The Blitzboks will now take on England – who knocked out hosts USA 24-19 – in the semi-finals at 9.40pm SA time on Sunday, while Fiji will face New Zealand at 10.02pm.
The final is scheduled for 2.53am SA time on Monday morning.
