Hugo Broo's demand to bring his own technical staff was among the main reasons why Tunisia stopped their pursuit of the Bafana Bafana coach.

After Broos guided Bafana Bafana to a third-place finish at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast earlier this year, the North African giants identified the 72-year-old as a strong candidate to lead their national team.

At the time, reports suggested that, despite enjoying his tenure in South Africa, Broos was interested in joining the Eagles of Carthage, because of his desire to move closer to his family in Belgium.

However, the Belgian coach quickly refuted these claims, labelling them as mere rumours, and reaffirmed that he had a contract with South Africa.

"I heard rumours that Algeria were interested, that Tunisia were interested, and some other teams, also Brugges.

"But again, there are no negotiations. I didn’t see the people of Brugge. I know only that I am on the list and one of the candidates, so let’s see what happens in the future.

“I have a contract until 2026, so if there will be a moment that maybe I can leave or want to leave South Africa, then I still have to negotiate with SAFA.”

However, a member of the Tunisian Football Association Chedly Rahmani, has revealed that they stopped their pursuit of Broos because he wanted to bring his own technical team and that would have been too costly for them.

"Hugo Broos, we wanted him. The problem is that he wanted to come with his entire staff and it will cost us 2.9 million euros per year. We don't have that budget." Rahmani said in an interview with Mosaique FM.
