WHILE there are many ways to celebrate Women’s Month, sometimes all you need is some time in front of your television as you enjoy some Hollywood blockbusters and vibrant local productions.
With this in mind, here are some of the best new releases which will be released on various platforms this August.
‘’Losing Lerato 2”
The sequel to the critically acclaimed “Losing Lerato” takes viewers on yet another emotional ride. The story continues with Thami’s (Kagiso Modupe) release from prison on medical parole after being charged with kidnapping his daughter.
He now finds himself in need of a kidney transplant. But when Lerato’s (Nefisa Mkhabela) pleas to her influential stepfather go unanswered, she takes drastic measures to save her father’s life.

“No Hard Feelings”
Join Jennifer Lawrence in this heartfelt yet raunchy romantic comedy, where she plays a woman, who, desperate for money, accepts a job to get a wealthy couple’s introverted, awkward son (Andrew Barth) out of his shell.
“No Hard Feelings” premieres on M-Net Movies 1 (DStv Channel 104) on August 3 at 10.15pm. It will also be available on DStv catch-up.
“The Mommy Club: Sugar & Spice”
As the spin-off to the hit local series “The Mommy Club”, this show centres on nine affluent mothers within Durban’s Indian community.
Join the ladies as they go about their opulent lives with their accomplished partners and spoiled children. The show also promises plenty of drama, jealousy and gossiping.

“The Shakedown”
Set in Cape Town, the crime-comedy centres around Justin Diamond (Carl Beukes), a well-respected medical aid broker who gets mixed up in the Mother City’s underworld after his mistress threatens to reveal the secret of their affair.
∎ “The Shakedown” premières on Amazon Prime Video on August 8.
“Eksie Perfeksie”
This Afrikaans romcom follows the story of André, who impulsively moves in with his girlfriend, Dalene, only to find out she is friends with all her ex-boyfriends.
Intimidated by their constant presence, he tries to befriend them but soon discovers that all of Dalene’s past relationships follow the same pattern.
∎ “Eksie Perfeksie” premières on Showmax on August 9.
“Barbie”
In this all-star rendition of Mattel's Barbie doll. Hollywood actress Margot Robbie plays Barbie and Ryan Gosling stars as Ken. This blockbuster sees the pair embark on an epic adventure into the human world where they discover shocking truths, which is a world away from the perfect and plastic Barbie Land.
“Barbie” will premiere on M-Net (DStv channel 101) on August 11 at 8.05pm. It will also be available to stream on DStv catch-up.
“Emily in Paris”
Full of fashion, food, friendship, romance and comedy, the first part of season 4 of “Emily in Paris” promises to be a wild and thrilling adventure.
It centres around Emily Cooper, played by the ever-in-vogue Lily Collins, who leaves her marketing job in the US to live and work in The City of Love. The season follows the American as she faces challenges in her love life and her career.
∎ The first part of Season 4 of “Emily in Paris” will premiere on Netflix on August 15.
“Piano Love”
Local rap sensation Kwesta (real name Senzo Vilakazi) is set to make his acting debut in this Netflix local movie, alongside dancer Bontle Modiselle-Moloi.
Escape into this musical love story and the musician’s infectious beats in this production which is set in vibrant Soweto streets and features the sounds of amapiano.
“Piano Love” premières on Netflix on August 23.
