South African singer and actress Zimkitha is eager to launch her debut album, “The Black Enigma”. As a build-up to the album launching next month, the singer has released another soulful single, “Baby Vuka”.
Produced by rapper and music producer L-Tip, “Baby Vuka” infuses neo-soul sounds with jazz elements through Zimkitha’s reaffirming and soothing vocal prowess with authentic storytelling, a mixture of Xhosa and English.
“The single is about the little moments that define us as humans, such as stepping outside to breathe. Those moments aren’t always playing out like that, as depression and anxiety can simmer in, which can leave one lying in bed for hours or days,” she said.
“‘Baby Vuka’ serves as a reminder to one’s worth and why they deserve to be loved as the world loves them back, and all they need to do is to wake up (Vuka) in order to experience those special moments.
“It is a form of self-affirmations that speak life into one’s world, allowing them to also share those valuable words with others, thus sharing their light with the world.”
Four months before releasing “Baby Vuka”, Zimkitha released “Complicated” with Tasha HendrixX, which will also be featured on the album.
∎ “The Black Enigma” is expected to drop on September 18, and on September 24, the Eastern Cape-born singer will be performing it at the State Theatre in Pretoria.
