Following a successful edition of the Engen Get Into Rugby Festival in the Free Stage last month, the Mpumalanga Rugby Union successfully staged their edition of the nationwide grassroots rugby programme last month.

The Mpumalanga edition of the programme which is targeted at boys and girls between the ages of 6 – 13 saw close to 100 children from four different Mpumalanga schools gather at the Vuka Primary School in Elukwatini, Mpumalanga, for a fun-filled morning of touch rugby.

Carrying its strong values of solidarity, discipline, respect, passion and integrity, the Engen Get Into Rugby programme not only affords youngsters an opportunity to engage in the sport of rugby, but lays a solid foundation of life values that will come in handy both on and off the field.

Speaking after the successful rollout of the programme in Mpumalanga, Get Into Rugby coach, Lucky Mokoena lauded the programme’s unique ability of not only affording youngsters exposure to the sport of rugby, but also instilling life lessons that will contribute to their growth in years to come.

“First and foremost the Engen Get Into Rugby program is the best way of introducing our kids to rugby, creating interest and awareness of the accessibility of the sport to everyone. It instils important life lessons and values that today’s society lacks. Kids here are not only taught how to play rugby, but encouraged to practise important values such as discipline, respect and integrity. Lastly it builds confidence and a healthy life style among our young generation”, said Mokoena.

The Engen Get into Rugby festivals also offer young, aspirant rugby coaches, both male and female, an opportunity to develop their rugby coaching skills – a key aspect that aligns with Engen Sports’ values of creating a holistic platform for youth sport development.

The Engen Get Into Rugby Programme continues over the next few weeks across South Africa.
