Extreme water shortages in the eThekwini Municipality has resulted in the Phoenix Child Welfare urgently calling on companies and individuals to assist with donating water for the Phoenix Children’s Homes and the Sahara Shelter.

"The water crisis in Phoenix has reached alarming levels, significantly impacting the daily lives of residents. The scarcity of clean, safe drinking water has posed severe challenges, particularly for vulnerable groups such as the children in the homes and the clients at the Sahara Shelter," said Aroona Chetty, the Director of Phoenix Child Welfare.

“Without sufficient water, our children and shelter clients are facing immense distress. Basic needs like drinking, cooking, and maintaining hygiene are becoming increasingly difficult to meet. We are in dire need of 5-litre bottles of water to ensure the well-being of those in our care."

She added: “The impact of the water crisis extends beyond immediate health concerns. Prolonged water shortages contribute to increased stress and anxiety, exacerbating existing mental health issues among already vulnerable populations. Children are particularly affected with their growth, development and overall well-being at risk due to insufficient hydration and sanitary conditions.”

The home and shelter are requesting donations of 5-litre bottles of water. Donations can be delivered to the Phoenix Child Welfare at 10 Featherstone Place, Whetstone, Phoenix, or pick-ups can be arranged.
