Head for the hills and party on

Cape Town - This summer you have the option of trawling the dark clubs of the night for your dance music fix, or you can take the party outdoors into the sunshine with Tune Out.

The first of the series of events on a farm in Franschhoek took place last month and, although I wasn’t able to make it, my trusted sidekick Divine Lady D stepped in to share the experience with us.

This is what she had to say:

“There are not many things that get me out of my warm bed on a rainy Saturday morning but the lure of the promises made by Dino Moran, organiser of the Tune Out: Summer Picnic launch party, was incredibly seductive. It was billed as ‘something different’, an upmarket winelands picnic experience showcasing an exceptional DJ lineup.

“The venue, a farm between Franschhoek and Paarl, was decked out with parasols and checked picnic blankets, a shaded dance floor and two fully stocked bars on either end of the sprawling picnic area. We chose our picnic spot on the top of a grassy verge, adjacent to the swimming pool and the bar, and with a breathtaking view of the mountains and the revelry on the dance floor.

“There was a lake to cool off in and some party-goers took to floating languidly on the blow-up air mattresses provided. One man donned his neon green Speedo hot pants. Some things just cannot be unseen.”

Catering was provided by a fleet of food trucks which offered everything from fresh sushi from GushiSushi to cheese and meat picnic platters from Pesto Boutique and bacon bites from Tailgate Foods, which are apparently “world-famous”.

“The music was provided by a stellar line-up of the most talented purveyors of deep house.

“The atmosphere was respectful, happy and noticeably attitude-free. Every possible need was anticipated and catered to by the very accommodating Tune Out team.”

The great part about the Tune Out events is that they are putting their line-ups together from the stable of DJs who have longstanding careers in the industry.

So if you’re a little bit older than your twenties and you have a bit of nostalgia for the “old days” of nightclubbing as well as a desire to still enjoy your vibe, but in a more sophisticated environment, these parties are for you.

“We were very happy with the launch party as the first small step towards a much greater vision of hosting unique events that bring people together in a very special and life-enriching way,” said Moran.

The next event is on Boxing Day, with Craig De Sousa, Dino Moran, Peter A (playing for the first time in South Africa since emigrating to Australia), Tomorrows Will, Thank Me Later, Thalydomid (Dynamic / Germany), and Culoe De Song on the decks.

On December 29, the line-up is Cassiem Latief, Dino Moran, Luke Redford & Nico Sun (Germany – Light House Afrikaburn/ Miteinander Musik), Ashton Gardner & Russell Shangley, Richard Marshall and Rafael Cerato (UK - Diynamic /Stil Vor Talent /Systematic).

l Tune Out begins at 11am and ends at 10pm, so it’s all very civilised. The venue is Flenterskloof Farm, Simondium, on the R45 to Franschhoek near the turn off to Klapmuts. Tickets are through www.Quicket.co.za Early: Bird R250, pre sold R350, or R500. For details, e-mail [email protected]
