Cape Town - Business is booming at the newly opened Century City Conference Centre (CCCC) Hotel, Cape Town, with a significant number of confirmed bookings.
The CCCC will be hosting its official launch this weekend.
Joint chief executive Gary Koetser said the hotel was booked to capacity within the first week of it opening.
He said there were at least 75 confirmed conference bookings for the year.
The CCCC has 19 venues which can host up to 1 200 people per hall.
The hotel adjacent to the CCCC, which originally had 125 rooms, has also been expanded, increasing the number of rooms in the vicinity of the conference centre to 600.
The CCCC and hotel forms part of Century City’s R1-billion mixed-use Century City Urban Square development.
It has gained the support of the South African National Convention Bureau, Wesgro and Minister of Tourism Derek Hanekom.
According to Koetser it took him and his business partner, Glyn Taylor, nearly four years to bring the CCCC and hotel to life.
He said when a popular hotel in Century City, known for booking conferences, started turning clients away due to space constraints, they knew their venture would take flight.
Koetser said: “We offer rooms that can fit 500 to 1 000 delegates which is not common here in Cape Town.
“It is encouraging to see that the Western Cape is clearly seen not only as one of the world’s leading leisure destinations, but as a forerunner for business travel globally.”
Taylor said: “We believe the CCCC is a great new asset to the hospitality industry and a perfect opportunity to increase the number of business travellers to South Africa and Cape Town.”
Last year, it was reported that queries to host events at the Century City Conference Centre, worth about R63-million were streaming in and “growing on a daily basis”.
