“Let me chop life a bit.” These are the words of South African amapiano producer and DJ, DJ Maphorisa, who is currently enjoying a luxury getaway in Dubai after months of hard work and major career milestones.
The award-winning music producer, whose real name is Themba Sekowe, recently shared glimpses of his luxury getaway on Instagram, giving fans a front-row seat to his time in the “City of Gold”.
Maphorisa kicked off his trip by posting a video of himself on a flight to Dubai while dancing to Drake’s latest track, “Shabang”.
The producer has been trending on social media after fans credited him with popularising the signature dance moves associated with the song.
“Dubai, I’m on the way,” he said in the clip.
The hitmaker later shared videos from a night out at GAL Dubai, where he enjoyed breathtaking views of the iconic Burj Khalifa.
He also gave followers a glimpse of his lavish dining experience, which included oysters and an Aperol spritz.
The getaway comes during a busy and exciting period in Maphorisa’s career.
Earlier this year, he announced that he would be returning to his afro-house roots after years of dominating the amapiano scene.
“Amapiano is in good hands; I am going back to my roots where it all started: AFRO!” he wrote on social media.
The transition has already received strong support from fellow South African DJs Shimza and Black Coffee, both of whom publicly backed his return to afro-house.
With Shimza’s support, Maphorisa recently performed his first afro-house set at Kunye in Kenya, the electronic music platform founded by Shimza to showcase African dance music talent.
Although Maphorisa did not perform at the 2026 Coachella festival, he attended the globally renowned event as a spectator.
In another major career move, the producer also secured a coveted performance slot in Ibiza as part of Black Coffee Saturdays at Hï Ibiza.
The announcement was made by Coffee alongside the official Hï Ibiza Instagram page.
Reacting to the opportunity, Maphorisa expressed gratitude for the chance to showcase his music on an international stage.
“Honoured @realblackcoffee @hiibizaofficial ❤️🙏🏿,” he wrote.
